Ugh, mom and Hoyt are dragging me on a mammoth holiday shopping trip this weekend! What a waste of a perfectly good Saturday.

How about telling them you can't shop because you have to save the planet!

Awesome! But how do I do that?

You take a stand against rampant consumerism by not buying anything for the holidays this year! We will only be consuming good cheer at my house. And organic eggnog.

Rampant what? Er, buy nothing .... No presents under the tree? No stocking stuffers? No fruitcake? Well, I could get behind the no fruitcake part...

That sure is a green way of celebrating, Mrs. G., but I don't think buying nothing is for everyone. Getting and giving presents can be a lot of fun. And I've really come to depend on the tube socks Izz buys me every year.

Well, gifts of time are thoughtful and completely green. You could, oh, I don't know, give your favorite neighbor a night of free babysitting. And you could talk with your family about exchanging fewermaterial things this year. Not only will you save money, but you will also reduce your consumption of all the un-green stuff that goes along with gifts, like the plastic packaging that toys and games come in. And you can save trees by recycling wrapping paper!

It sounds like you can save all sorts of things just by changing a few holiday buying habits.
